READKIDDOREAD.com

www.READKIDDOREAD.com

Not exactly based on new technology, but a resource that many teachers might want to pass on to educators and parents in their buildings/districts.

I recently went to a Bureau of Education & Research conference Titled What's New in Children's Literature. The presenter, Judy Freeman, was full of wonderful ideas for ways to incorporate today's hottest children's titles into the classroom. She reviews hundreds of new children's books each year and then presents on the one's that have been tested out on actual children. Anyway, at this conference Judy told us about a web site that was created for parents and teachers alike. The goal of the web site was to get kids motivated to read. The sure fire way to do this is through really good books that will grab children's attention and get them begging for more. The web site has tabs for great illustrated books, great transitional books, great page turners, and great advanced reads. After clicking on any of the tabs mentioned, one can find summaries of the books as well as link to lesson plans that could be done in relation to the story. Then, if a student likes that title there is an option to pick more books like it! Really, the work is done for you. No more hunting to find the books that will help kids learn to love to read. There are also tabs for a lesson plan exchange page, a community page and a newsletter link. Every educator and parent should be checking this site out.

  2. Not only does this sound like something that all elementary school teachers could use, but also something that parents would appreciate as well. I spend a lot of time with a ten year old boy who likes to read almost as much as he likes eating liver. In other words he does not like to read. Every once in a while I can get him to at least start a book with the hopes that he will take it home and continue reading. This site sounds like a place where I could find a series of books that could get him hooked on reading. I worry about his future if he continues to treat books as a chore.
